Lighting Science Group, working with Lifestyle Homes, donated to ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition hundreds of ENERGY STAR approved DEFINITY LED bulbs in the Hurston family’s new home in Cocoa, Florida. The Hurston family’s home had been severely water damaged. The family’s Air Mobile Ministries brings clean water into countries following disasters, and the machines have saved countless lives following the massive and devastating earthquake in Haiti. The Hurston family has given so much and this was a great way to join together with our community in giving back.

The lamps which are coupled with a solar hot water heater, solar roof panels, and a wind turbine will give the Hurston family an electric bill of zero. “Lighting Science Group’s generous donation of ultra-efficient LED bulbs was a critical component for helping us build a net zero home for the Hurston family—the products were compatible with all the standard fixtures that were ordered and their output is simply brilliant,” said Jake Luhn, chief executive officer of LifeStyle Homes.

Season 8, Episode 16 featuring the Hurston family aired on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011.

“Lighting Science Group’s LED bulbs deliver excellent light distribution, brilliant color, optimum performance, and are ultra-efficient in meeting our energy, environmental and design needs,” said Jeff Lubarsky, energy and retail facilities manager of Yankee Candle.

Lighting Science Group’s high-performance and ultra-efficient LED bulbs are now lighting up Yankee Candle stores all across New England. The ENERGY STAR approved DEFINITY PAR 20, PAR 30, PAR 38 and MR 16 LED bulbs installed in stores are approximately 80% more efficient than the halogen bulbs that they replace and are fully dimmable.

On Monday, Dec. 13th, we celebrated the production of our one millionth U.S. LED lamp. The entire team here did a really wonderful job coordinating the event, and we’d like to send a thank you to the whole Lighting Science Group family for making it possible to get this far.  During the event, Senator Thad Altman, Senator Mike Haridopolos & County Commissioner Mary Bolin had some great things to say about Lighting Science Group and the hard work we’ve been doing here.

What do one million LED lamps mean? One million LSG LED lamps means over 450 jobs created in the U.S. It means 280,032,480 lbs of carbon dioxide, 933,442 lbs of sulfur dioxide, 466,721 lbs of nitrogen oxide & 6,690 grams of mercury eliminated annually.  And, those first million are just the beginning… as our one millionth LED was a replacement bulb for the 60 – Watt incandescent, better known as “the energy hog.”  If you were unable to view the webcast of the event yesterday, you’ll find below some media coverage as well as the video from the event.

This past month, has been incredibly busy for us here at LSG. Along with the launch of our new website http://www.lsgc.com, our CEO, Zach Gibler has had interviews with Bloomberg, CNN & Fox News.  The goal of the interviews was to shed some light concerning the challenges for quickly growing businesses to keep production in the U.S.  If you’ve missed them throughout the month, here are links to each:

At the end of September, we also received word that we had the first ENERGY STAR approved LED lamp in the industry.  Everyone here is incredibly proud and thrilled of this huge achievement. And, since we heard that news from Energy Star, eight other LED lamps in the DEFINITY line have followed suit bringing us one step closer to being the leader in the lighting industry.

To really become the leader that we aim to be, it was decided that our Design Works team would join us at our main Satellite Beach location, putting all design & development under one very large roof. To those who are joining us here, we would like to send a huge welcome to Florida and we look forward to creating LSG’s Innovation Center here with you all!

This past Friday, we launched our new website! If you haven’t yet taken a look at our new online home, please check it out and let us know what you think.  As we continue to grow,  part of our expansion was to create a new site to better serve our customers and partners. Several of our teams here worked for months with the goal of having the most comprehensive and easy-to-use website for our customers and partners.  Some of the new features on our new site at  www.lsgc.com are:

We’ll be taking the next few weeks to refine the site to be sure that everything continues to run smoothly and effectively. And we will also soon be adding the following:

  • Financial calculator currency conversions
  • Sustainable initiatives to include details on take back program
  • Rebate section to include more details on how to obtain local rebates for customers
  • Additional application renderings to show more options

We look forward to hearing your comments on the new site, and appreciate you taking a look at it!

We’ve had something huge in the works here for a few months now, and are very excited that we’ll be able to release the news to everyone tomorrow, Oct. 1st, about exactly what it is. We’ve been working with amazing teams both inside and outside of the company to create something that we believe everyone will enjoy & appreciate.  Look out for the big announcement tomorrow!

Lighting Science Group Corporation’s (OTCBB: LSCG.OB) common stock will commence trading on the OTC Bulletin Board under the ticker symbol “LSCG” today, August 30, 2010.

Having our shares traded on the OTC Bulletin Board is an important part of our strategy to increase the Company’s liquidity and transparency with retail and institutional investors. The listing is one in a series of recent actions the Company has taken to build value for shareholders, including significantly reducing debt and strengthening our board of directors. We look forward to providing updates on our line of products, distribution and manufacturing agreements as we continue our growth and expansion.   ~ Zach Gibler, CEO

A couple of weeks ago, I was doing some reading about off-grid lighting.  Research shows that there is an enormous amount of money that is spent on fuel-based lighting systems by rural and urban regions that are not connected to electricity grids. Naturally after reading this, I was thrilled to hear that our engineers had developed The PROLIFIC DC Series.  The PROLIFIC DC Series eliminates the need to power street lights from the electrical grid. They are instead powered by low voltage direct current electricity produced by solar and wind energy sources. “With the PROLIFIC DC series, countries around the world now have the freedom to install virtually anywhere environmentally friendly, affordable and energy efficient street lights that have better lighting quality than traditional HID lights,” our CEO Zach said.

The PROLIFIC DC series street lights aren’t just in development, they will soon light up Mexico City’s newly constructed “Viaducto Bicentenario” (roughly translated “Bicentennial Bridge”), which runs 23 kilometers (about 14.5 miles) from Lomas Verdes to Tepotzotlan.  The Viaducto Bicentenario, which is being built in celebration of Mexico’s bicentennial taking place on September 16th, will be a gleaming example of the most efficient roadway lighting technology in the world. Joe Gerstl, CEO of Gerstl Consultores, S.A. de C.V. invited BHP Energy Mexico S. de R.L. de C.V., Mexico’s leading expert in LED lighting technologies to help guide their selection of LED street lights for the project.  “This is the first elevated superhighway in Mexico that will be illuminated entirely by solar-powered LED streetlights, and our customer required the most efficient and reliable illumination system available to complement the advanced nature of its solar power system,” said Alan Barson, CEO of BHP Energy Mexico. “After extensive research and testing, we selected Lighting Science Group’s PROLIFIC DC series LED RoadWay 100 watt street light for this project,” added Barson. Zach and the rest of us here at Lighting Science would like to thank BHP Energy Mexico S. de R.L. de C.V. for introducing our PROLIFIC DC series products into Mexico.
